Your first design

Start a project from a prompt on Home, run one or more agents on it, and steer them while they work.

Start from Home

Home opens with What will you create today? and a prompt box. Above the box, pick a project type: Landing page, Mobile app, Web app, Slides, Dashboard or Something else….

A project type adds a short creation guide under your prompt, for example one desktop page 1440 wide for a landing page, phone screens of 390 × 844 for a mobile app, or 1920 × 1080 frames for slides. Something else… sends your prompt as it is.

Write what you want and press Enter to send (Shift+Enter adds a new line). Potlot creates a project named after the first line of your prompt, opens it, and starts the agent. Before sending, check the agent and model on the model button; see Connect an agent.

To start without a prompt, use New project or one of the blank starters under Start a blank project.

Attach references

Click + in the composer, or paste an image or SVG into the prompt. You can attach:

  • Images, such as screenshots or mood references. Large images are compressed first and must end up under 10 MB.
  • Text documents ending in .md, .markdown, .txt, .csv or .json, such as a brief or a PRD, up to 200 KB each. Their text goes into the agent's prompt.
  • SVG files, sent as their source code so the agent reads the exact paths and colors. Pasting SVG code, such as Figma's Copy as SVG, attaches it the same way.

A prompt carries at most 4 attachments.

Run agents in parallel

The people icon in the composer opens Parallel agents. Choose 1x to 6x, then a strategy:

  • Split Work: one agent plans the request and hands parts of it to the others as sub-agents.
  • Side by Side: each agent designs its own variant in a new frame beside your design.

With more than one agent you can give each one its own model. The agents are named Graphite, Charcoal, Pastel, Ink, Chalk and Sepia, and Graphite is the main one. Across all documents, at most 8 agents run at once.

Variants

The variants button opens Let it cook. Pick an iteration mode, Layout or Style, and 2 to 6 variants. Each variant is designed by its own agent in a new frame beside your design. To iterate on an existing frame, select it first so it is mentioned in the prompt.

The Agents panel

In the editor, the left sidebar opens on the Agents tab. It shows the conversation: the agent's messages, its tool calls and any questions or permission requests for you. Switch conversations from the menu at the top, or click New to start one. When one prompt started several agents, each appears as a tab, and Stop all stops every agent in the conversation.

The layer you select on the canvas appears as a chip in the composer, so the agent works on that layer. Remove the chip if you mean the whole design. You can also right-click a layer and choose Ask agent about selection.

Follow-ups, Steer and Stop

You can keep typing while an agent works. A message sent during a run is queued above the composer, and queued follow-ups go out one at a time after the agent finishes. Each queued item has three actions:

  • Steer: stop the agent and send this follow-up now.
  • Edit (pencil): change the text before it is sent.
  • Remove (trash): drop it from the queue.

To stop the agent without sending anything, clear the prompt box and click the stop button where the send button was.

Saving your work

Potlot saves the .ptl file as changes happen. The top bar shows Saving…, Unsaved changes or Saved. Press ⌘S to save right away.

Each project created from Home gets its own folder in the documents folder inside ~/.potlot, for example documents/Landing/Landing.ptl. Agents you run from the project work in that folder, so the files they make stay with it. Deleting the project from Home moves the folder to the Trash. To write a copy somewhere else, use Export project… in the main menu (⇧⌘E). Images you add are stored in a <name>-assets/ folder next to the file.

When the design is ready, export images or export HTML.
